Zion Lutheran Church joined churches across the United States at 1:15 EDST Friday, June 11, 2004, tolling its bell 40 times at the conclusion of President Ronald Reagan's state funeral in Washington, DC. This was Zion's response to the Reagan family request that churches everywhere join with the bells of the National Cathedral in honor of our nation's 40th President.

Church Council Member Ernie Burnett at his tolling position deep in the church bell tower in Silverhill, AL, joined with bell ringers across the nation in tolling historic Zion Lutheran Church's bell 40 times at conclusion of the President Reagan funeral at the National Cathedral, Washington, DC, June 11, 2004. President Reagan was the 40th President of the United States.

This same Zion bell has been calling people to worship and tolling for the passing of God's people for much of the last century. It rings before each 10:00 service Sunday mornings and can be heard on this website.
